Recent technical history of the Talker package

11/2024	3.06	Updated to the latest Talker specification 6. The previous version of the Talker SDK was specification 5.

09/2020	3.05	An incorrect use of the TCF_LCLOCK flag in the example code has been removed.

05/2020	3.04	The example code in the talker SDK has been re-written to make it clearer and conform with modern standards. The documentation has been improved too.

11/2017	3.03	Various example project files that were omitted from the 3.02 installer are now installed. The ctalkif code now works correctly with non-unicode builds.

10/2017	3.02	Handles high resolution monitors much better. Has a standard status bar that displays useful information. Has a connection settings dialog which can be used instead of command-line parameters to set the Spike2 machine name and talker number.

10/2016	3.00	Improved support library, and the examples are adjusted to work with this.

12/2015	3	Talker configuration information is now saved as individual XML values, which makes it very much easier to manage any later changes to the configuration information. Channels from a talker can now be identified by Spike2 by name rather than by their number within the talker channels available. This makes it very much easier to produce a talker where the available channels vary significantly. Spike2 versions 7.18 and 8.08 fully support version 3 of the talker interface.

03/2014	2	A 'highest common version' mechanism was added whereby a talker and Spike2 declare the interface version that they support, following which they both adhere to the lower of the two versions - the highest version number that they both can support. New SendString and Command packets were added. The first allows a script to send arbitrary values to a talker or vice-versa. This is intended to allow specialised scripts to interact in some manner with particular talkers. The Command packet allows a talker to send a command such as 'Start sampling' to Spike2.
